Written and Narrated by Dana El Kurd
Directed by Mikey Andreasson

On Oct. 7, 2023, Palestinian scholar Dana El Kurd found herself in the Jewish Museum in Berlin, learning about the Hamas attacks in real-time while immersed in exhibits on European antisemitism, the Holocaust and Israel’s creation. The clash of history and current events prompted her to reflect deeply in a poignant essay featured in the Winter 2024 issue of New Lines’ print edition. This thought-provoking multimedia video adaptation featuring El Kurd’s narration explores the legacies of violence and oppression, considering the costs of national security when it comes at the expense of others. She examines the human consequences of control and the universal search for belonging through meditations on ghettoization, occupation and power.
