Michael J. Kramer is an associate professor of history at the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport and the author of “The Republic of Rock: Music and Citizenship in the Sixties Counterculture” (2013). He is the editor of The Carryall, an online journal of U.S. cultural and intellectual history and writes the Culture Rover blog of cultural criticism. His current book-in-progress is titled “Wave That Flag: The United States Bicentennial and the Coming of the Culture Wars.”
