Tamuna Chkareuli
Tamuna Chkareuli is a Caucasus-based documentary photographer. She was a 2021 fellow of the RFE/RL Georgian Service regional journalism program and has also been awarded the 2020 EU Prize for Journalism in Georgia for the best investigative story. She is currently working as a freelance journalist and photographer.

The haphazard but generous relief response appears to be the result of a relatively hands-off approach by Poland’s authorities, who in recent years have had much more experience in turning away refugees than welcoming them. The burden of organizing the logistics of support for refugees has instead fallen on local municipalities as well as NGOs and thousands of independent volunteers.
