Josef Burton is a former American diplomat. He worked on Iranian and Afghan immigration issues during the Trump presidency from Ankara, Turkey, and Washington, D.C. His last tour with the State Department was in Mumbai, India. He is currently working on a book about the Muslim ban at the intersection of empire, migration, liberalism and Islamophobia.
