National Investigative Reporter

Aram Shabanian is a national investigative reporter at New Lines magazine. He previously worked at the New Lines Institute, putting his background in open-source investigations and conflict-tracking to use by closely watching developments pertaining to the outbreak of widespread war in Ukraine in February 2022. His academic background is in the 20th-century history of the former Soviet Union and Baathist Iraq. He attended undergraduate school at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, before heading to the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey for a master’s degree in nonproliferation and terrorism studies.

Aram lives in Salem, Oregon with his two cats, and is passionate about aviation and military hardware. He spends his off-hours volunteering at an air museum and teaching his passions to the public.
