A War Reawakened
Amid the M23 insurgency in eastern Congo, New Lines went into rebel-controlled territory to see the effects of the fighting and heard from militants, displaced families and local leaders about the harsh realities of life in a war zone, the changing political situation and the influence of foreign countries.

Mermaids and Methane
The methane-filled waters of Lake Kivu, which borders Rwanda and Congo, hold out the promise of energy and profit in an area of deep poverty. But extracting the gas may fuel conflict, and has the potential to cause a natural disaster that would result in massive loss of life.
