Tim Mackintosh-Smith is an Arabist and historian. Based in Yemen for over a third of a century — the latter five years lived through a barrage of missiles and slogans — he is currently “on sabbatical” from the war. His book, “Arabs: A 3,000-Year History of Peoples, Tribes and Empires,” published in 2019, has been described as “a book of vast scope and stunning insight.”
