
Kevin Knodell
Kevin Knodell is an award-winning journalist based in Hawaii who covers conflict and culture. He is currently a staff writer at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. He is also a producer of the Angry Planet Podcast and the co-author of the graphic novels “The ‘Stan” and “Machete Squad.”
Over the course of his career, he has filed stories from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, South Korea, Fiji, Samoa and the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Along the way he has interviewed Green Berets, bikers, refugees, fishers, hip-hop producers, firefighters, cops, CEOs, pole dancers and politicians.
He received the 2021 Military Reporters and Editors’ Association Award for Best Overseas Coverage for his work in Kirkuk as a correspondent for Coffee or Die Magazine. His work has also appeared in McClatchy newspapers, Foreign Policy magazine, Playboy magazine, Stars & Stripes, The Daily Beast, The Nib, Vice, Naval History magazine and others.
